Bowery Mission Volunteering Day #8 (5/13/21)

Today I volunteered at the usual time again for the meal prep shift from 2:00 to 4:00PM. I got there and did the usual sign-in things before saying hello to everyone. When I went to get my red apron, I saw 3 volunteers wrapping cookies already. I asked chef Ron if I should join them or if there was anything else to do, and he said there was nothing else other than wrapping the girl scout cookies. So I went to the back and one of the women showed me how they were wrapping them with plastic wrap. They were the thin mints, my favorite kind. So I helped until all the boxes that were left were finished. Then we started to clean up and throw the garbage away. I went to tell Ron we were finished but he asked if I was sure that we finished all the boxes. So another kitchen staff member showed me where more boxes might be and there were 3 more large boxes with many girl scout boxes in them. So we started to do them for a few minutes, but then the rest of the volunteers had to leave at 2:30, so they left while I finished up the rest of the boxes for the next hour and a half. I wish they stayed to keep me company for the rest of my shift, or that there was at least one other volunteer to help me out. I realized that the reason why I am volunteering alone or only with one other person is probably because of the shift time, most people have classes or are at work. Hopefully, I will have more company next week though!
