Today I volunteered again for the meal prep shift from 2:00 to 4:00PM. I came in and did the usual things first before seeing Sean and Ron and saying hello to them. Then Sean gave me my first task, putting utensils in plastic bags, then put the bags into a large bin. After about 15 minutes Sean gave me another job. There was a donation of a bunch of packaged food and cans, so the other volunteer and I organized the items into crates. We put the cans in one, snacks in another, and bags/boxed items in another. Then we got another donation for a ton of salads. The other volunteer and I put the salads into a few large bins and we put the bins in the back. Then we brought the crates from the previous donation into the pantry and sorted out everything on the shelves and in bins. I put the rice into the rice bin, pasta into the pasta bin, and miscellaneous boxed food in another bin. The other volunteer helped me sort the cans out on the shelves in specific places. Then I put the crates away in the back. Next, we put more utensils in more bags and finished the box filled with utensils. Then I swept the whole kitchen area, serving area, and the back where we put the utensils in the bags while the other volunteer sanitized the fridges. Sean said that was the last thing to do so I threw away my gloves and hairnet, washed my hands, and said goodbye. Till tomorrow!
